Business needs are constantly changing which means organisations invest lots of time and budget into their IT infrastructure of hardware, software and services, to meet the demands of their business. Cloud coomputing provides these resources over the internet thereby saving time and cost for such organisations. There are three deployment models of cloud computing:
1. Private cloud: This is solely for one organisation and highly secure
2. Public cloud: Service cloud providers offer this service to the public and it provides the highest level of efficiency in shared resources.
3. Hybrid cloud: This is a combination of private and public cloud. Resources solely for an organisation’s use could be used in the private cloud and other resources used in the public cloud.
Microsoft through the Microsoft Windows Azure provides the three service models for cloud computing:
1. Platform as a Service (Paas): Microsoft Windows Azure provides a platform/run-time environment for organisations or developers to create and deploy applications
2. Software as a Service (SaaS): Microsoft Windows Azure provides ready to use cloud based applications such as the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) and the Microsoft Dynamic CRM online.
3. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Infrastructure which include processing power and storage are provided by Microsoft using its remote desktop and virtual machines to the Microsoft Windows Azure.

This video on Agenda with Steve Paikin identifies the iPad as a game changer because it provides a different change from the way content is being interacted with. According to Levy (2010, cited in Agenda with Steve Paikin, 2010), ‘the iPad is designed for reading, gaming and media consumption. But it also represents an ambitious rethinking of how we use computers’. The iPad provides a personal ‘lean back’ and relaxing experience with content unlike the laptop that produces a ‘lean forward’ work experience. The iPad is a tablet that changes the way people access information on the internet. By touching, flipping through pages, expanding and shrinking , it gives an intimate experience of the content.

Cloud computing is an example of a disruptive technology. This innovation moved the traditional and costly means of installing software, infrastructure and platforms owned by an organisation to an easier and less expensive way which involves deploying these resources over the internet by a cloud service provider. Clouds are driven by a business model (Watzl, gentschen Felde, & Kranzlmuller 2011), an organisations takes up cloud computing to suit their business model. Scott Anthony, President, Innosight in an interview with Harvard Business Publishing defined disruptive innovation as bringing to market an innovation that is simple, convenient, accessible and affordable. Disruptive innovation results in a major change and transforms existing market by creating new ones. Since any member of an organisation can come up with distruptive innovation, senior management should create conducive environment for disruption to flourish. To spot opportunities for disruptive innovation;
1. Look for market where there is a constraint that hinders consumption
2. Identify where people have important and unsatisfied job to be done
3. Look for constraint consumption and target it at the job to be done
4. Think about how to make disruption better, simpler, convenient and affordable
